AMSE – new regional member for Europe on WFME Executive Council

AMSE – new regional member for Europe on WFME Executive Council

May 8, 2023

The Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE) has been identified as a successor of Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) as the representative of the European region on the WFME Executive Council.

The six Regional Associations on the WFME Executive Council represent a structural division of the world which is used by UN-related organisations. While most of the WFME Regional Associations map entirely or closely onto that structure, the representative of Europe AMEE has expanded their activities to an international level. To better harness the change on the WFME council, AMEE has moved into the position of an executive member, alongside the partner organisations Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) and Junior Doctors Network (JDN).

WFME, AMEE and AMSE agreed and, during the WFME Executive Council meeting in Québec held on 11 and 12 April 2023, the council confirmed that AMEE’s position should move to executive member and AMSE should be elected as the new regional member representing the European region. Professor Harm Peter, President of AMSE, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent AMSE on the WFME Executive Council. We are happy to welcome Professor Peters on the council!

AMSE creates a forum for European Faculties of Medicine to share experiences in the fields of education, research, and management. AMSE seeks to stimulate co-operation between Medical Schools in Europe and to initiate and sustain relations with other professional, governmental, and non-governmental organisations in education, research, and health care.
